Watch out, Kaiya's behind the wheel!

Kaiya turned 16!!! We were tired of chauffering her, so we got her a car!!!! Its a nice 2 door used car with plenty of miles on it! Its very GREEN, in that it used no gasoline, or wastefull fuel source. It runs on natural energy. In fact, when one child gets tired, another child can push the car from the outside. Abby often helps kaiya with that transportation problems. She is new to turning and parallel parking, but is great at opening and closing the door and steering the wheel without knowing it affects her direction.

Since she is only 16 mos, and not years, we have strictly forbidden her access of the road and ruled she not leave the driveway or sidewalk for another 14 years and 20 mos so that we don't have any legal issues or safety concerns.

Couponing high.

Sweet deal. Last weeks target cereal deal was pretty sweet. Since I am on a couponing high from it, I have to share. This is Kaiya helping me organize the sweet deal from target. Buy 3 kellog's cereal's on sale, use manufacturer's coupons on all 4 (even the free one), use target store $1 off coupons on 3 of them, $1 off peanut butter and pasta, buy one shampoo ( I bought the travel size which was on clearance for .48), get a free herbal essence styler - which I use anyway. All this for$7, and only $2 out of pocket ( we had a $5 gift card we got back from a previous purchase totaling $5.86). Since I was on a couponing high when we got back from the store, I sacrificed 1/2 of mountain bike time to use our laptops to print off another round of coupons to go back later at the end of our date night.
This time, we worked the deal four times. We used target and manufacturar coupons for 12 boxes of kellogs getting 4 free (I am not sure if I remembered to use the manufacturer coupon on the free on (darn it)), then we got 4 chex mix cereals for around $1. That's 20 boxes of cereal. As well, we got 8 more peanut butters for aroun 92 cents each, more pasta, 4 cream/mushroom soups, worked the shampoo/gel deal 3 more times and got more pasta. All this for $26 dollars - down from around $70! Not a bad way to re-stock our food storage.Kevin is catching a bit of the couponing high himself. He printed out more coupons that night, so he could go back to the store himself and work the deal again. Since I was headed to st louis this weekend for hockey and was going to meet up with my parents, I had my mom print off coupons on her computer and we worked the deal for her inbetween hockey games.

At target, all their halloween stuff was 90% off so we scored cute, not so halloweeny, halloween pants for Kaiya and Kyle for 60 cents each!

Couponing rollercoaster!

Hmmmmm.

Is is worth it? I have been couponing, the last two weeks and it has been a roller coaster ride of sorts. Some great deals and great dissapointments.

ups:
free chex mix (like 15 bags) - target coupons + manufacturer's coupon = free!!!

really cheap Herbal Essence Mousse - I buy the travel shampoo (on clearance for .48) and I get a styling product -herbal essence mousse - for free (which I use and need anyway) - I found extra coupons for this in kmarts ads they have in their stores. I have done this like 8 times! These are usually $3.50 each!!!

Discounted toilet paper - we ran out last week - for 2 whole days before I finally got some. Haha, 3 adults, 1 kid, all using flushable wipes! I felt extra bidea clean.

Free healthy choice entrees, all detergent (travel size) and snuggle fabric softner (32 loads!)

Free tuna fish, trident gum, cough drops, contact solution, and chap stick.

$5 dollars back at the grocery store with purchase of 10 items out of a choice of 30 items or so. And.... I had coupons for almost EVERY item. That made for a great deal.

Skippy peanut butter for $1 (I've bought like 10 jars of this), 8 boxes of whole wheat pasta -$.60 each, deoderant and body spray - both for .68 cents

Okay, the DOWNS:

staying up until 12:30 - 2:30 every night printing off coupons

Plowing through tons of paper and printer ink (but soooo happy our printer works)

Resorting to buying things I would NEVER buy - like booberry cereal for kevin for $.6o cents a box. ( I tested him on this one, telling him I could have gotten it for that price, but didn't. He couldn't believe I didn't snatch that amazing deal. )

The fact that I have bought granola bars and ora ida french fries ($1 for a box of 10 granola bars, and $.50 for the curly fries - a big package), but still, stuff I NEVER buy.

The worst was last night after our date night (we came back early, cuz Kev was not feeling great) - I went to go pick up my Walgreens deal scenarios. I had previously printed out my list and printed, cut and gathered ALL my coupons, and I had already gone once this week, but it DID NOT work because Kaiya was with me. Soo... KEving put the girls to bed and I went. Ugghhh, not only did they have NONE of the things I came there for, but I spent way too long looking for all the things due to my unfamiliarity of the store, they didn't restock what was already gone earlier in the week.

I was sooo pumped to buy this polygrip denture stuff, whichI had a coupon to get it for free - plus $2 in register rewards, a $2 money maker. But of course they were out of it.

Then I didn't do my transactions right for my register rewards. At least I am learning what mistakes NOT to make.

One great deal this week is target had $2 keebler soft/chewy cookie packages and if you buy 2 , get one free. I also printed out 3 $1.50 off 2 packages internet manufacturer coupons, plus 3 target 1.00 off 2 packages coupons. Total price for 6 packages.........drumroll pleas...........$.50 which is around $.08 a package!!! Now if you want some of these, just invite us over for a party and we will bring them - since I am not eating sugar:)

Okay, that's all 4 now, back to my couponing!
I will perservere a little longer, to see if its worth all of the effort!

To our own Metaphors

Hahaha, I am still laughing.

I just made swiss chard with garden herbs, lemon juice and I put sun dried tomatoes in. DELICIOUS. I got the swiss chard for 55 cents in the Meijer section of quick sale produce. I have found out it pays to run into meijer to check out this section when I drop Sarah off for work in the mornings. Yesterday we scored a bag of swiss chard for $0.39, a bigger bag for $0.55, 2 pounds of grapes for $0.79 (only 40 cents/lb) and 10 pounds of strawberries for $ 1.25/lb. We usually don't score THAT big, the strawberries were a treat. (Abby already helped me wash and freeze them, and we even used them for her Math lesson, which she was a VERY willing student).

Some of the produce you have to use QUICKLY, others not. I wanted to use ours up, since I have WAY too much in my fridge, so much that I had to leave the chard on the counter all night for lack of space. We had it yesterday for lunch as well. Abby only ate it to be able to have the rest of her strawberries afterwards, and even then, I had to help her. Swiss Chard can be a bit bitter, but is oooohhh so good with fresh basil, mozzarella and the trader joe's sun dried tomatoes, mmmm.

As I helped myself to seconds ( I am not making Abby eat this today), I asked Abby if she was sure she didn't want some, since it was with the sun dried tomatoes. "It tastes like Candy," I said, pleased with my metaphor ( too me anyway).
She said, "it doesn't taste like candy."
"Sure it does," I said.
"No mom, it doesn't........it tastes like garbage." I tried to surpress my laugh, and was rather successful.
"That's not very nice Abby." However, about 3 -5 seconds later I couldn't surpress it any longer, and I burst out into laughter and Abby quickly joined me. I confirmed to her that I thought what she said was "very funny" but, not nice to say if someone has made the effor to make a meal.

Chicago squared

WOW, two roadtrips, two weekends, same place, different people.

Last weekend we headed to Chicago area for my high school friend's wedding. We were able to stay at my sister's house after visiting with a PT school friend the first night. My sister just moved into her house in May, but she has already done some AMAZING landscaping, all with her own two hands. They sodded their lawn and then she cut out the sod all around her house, layed weed cover and mulch and then planted seemingly hundreds of plant/bushes/perrenials.

She just ordered some fruit cocktail trees and is VERY excited about those as well. I am requesting she post some final pictures of the front yard and her square foot gardens.

On Saturday Oct 3rd we attended Cheryl's wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony with many truths spoken, it was truly an honor to attend. She was absolutely beautiful, her reception and dinner were fabulous as well. Since we left our camera batteries in the car (haha, not the camera, JUST the batteries), Debbie was nice enough to take some pics of the girls and share her pictures with us through picasa. Check them out at http://picasaweb.google.com/debbie.liang/CherylSWedding?feat=directlink#

We took the girls to both the wedding and reception, which was a little crazy. Thankfully we got lost on our way to both, and since by some miracle Kaiya fell asleep in the car both those times, she got two very short naps.

When we got to the reception it was an hour to enjoy drinks. We asked the waiter for a spoon (for kaiya's baby food) and to fill our sippy cup. Two requests he probably does not often fill when working in that area. He somewhat proved that to be true when he politely handed us the spoon and a sippy cup chaulk full of ICE water LOL.

The girls had a blast with Dana's daughter on the dance floor and we left the wedding reception at 9:30pm and had decided to drive home that night. WE arrived at 3:45 or so eastern time, how exhausting. It was fine though, because we slept in until nine or 11:30 (for Kevin since he drove all night). Hooray for General conference - of which our church holds twice a year when the prophet, the apostles and other leaders give amazing talks - and that didn't start until 12 noon our time. There was another session we watched at 4pm - which was my favorite session this time around.

For Luke

Okay Luke, this post is for you. Luke has refused to leave his kitchen table till he sees more pictures of Abby. I guess the last post was too much of me and Sarah goofing off with the camera for his taste. I hope Luke did leave the table, but was happy when he RETURNED to the table with these pics.

I guess Kaiya really enjoyed sitting on this cow's head.
There were LOTS of HUNGRY goats to feed at Young's dairy. These guys were trying to stick their necks out, competing for food. They were nibbling on myt sweatshirt while I tried to take this picture.Kaiya LOVED feeding the goats right out of her hand.

She and Kevin shared some good laughs about it.
Here is my little climber checking out the sheep, cows, pigs and goats inside.
nuff said

One size does NOT fit all. Three sizes fit MOST.

We actually caught Kaiya sipping pumpkin collected rainwater pooled near the stem the seam of the stem.

Maybe I passed along some Anasazi "survival in the wilderness" genes to her.

Lots of F-16 flybyes that day. (we think a pilot was practicing).

A and K

Another one of Abby, for Luke.
This one is not for Luke, but I'm guessing its for the Romantic in me.

Don't squish my squashes ( for those who have seen the HM movie). Just look at the SIZE of that prizewinner in the background!
